Administrative Meeting Sunday May 13th
This is a reminder that we have an administrative meeting this evening. All members are invited to come, especially those interested in getting involved with the administrative side of ISMA.

Please remember that all current and future officers are required to come. It will be at 6:00pm at Jack Baskin Engineering 312C/D. The room is located in the older of the two engineering buildings. It is a little tricky to find, so be sure to look on the map outside the Engineering building. If the door is locked, please call Ian at (831) 818-5012 and we'll be sure to get you in the building.

Thanks and feel free to e-mail us if you have any questions.
Elections - Thursday, May 10th!!
  • When? This Thursday, May 10th at 6pm
  • Where? A conference room in the Engineering 2 building (To be announced very soon).
  • What? We will be electing the officers for next school year.
  • Who? We want every single ISMA member to be there to show your support and help elect the officers for next year. Elections will take place on this night only, so you must be present to submit a vote.
  • How? Elections will be made sequentially, in the order of the positions listed below. Each position will be elected separate of the others. This will allow us to cross off one person from the other positions they were running for when they win in one position.

Official Nominations

Tehse are the official nominations. If you notice any incorrect information below, please email isma.ucsc@gmail.com right away and let us know.

Nominations Due This Friday, May 4th!!
It's time for elections! Please nominate for officer roles by this Friday, May 4th. All of the officer positions are up for elections. They are:
  • President
  • Vice President
  • Fundraising Officer
  • Administrative Officer
  • Outreach Officer
  • Community Officer
  • Career Officer
Please download view the Officer Guidelines and Descriptions for more details on each position and what duties and responsibilities they entail.

Instructions

If you want to make a nomination, please send an email to isma.ucsc@gmail.com. Make it clear who you are nominating and for which position you are nominating.

Nomination Details

You may nominate any member for a position, including yourself. A nomination simply lets us know that you think someone should hold a position next year (2007-2008 school year). We will then notify that person that he or she has been nominated and see if that person accepts the nomination. A person may be nominated for up to three positions. If a person is nominated for more, we will let that person know and they will then choose the top three positions they'd like to run for.

Once we have nominations confirmed for a person, that person can run for all of the nominated positions, giving each position a priority. If you are nominated, we will contact you and be sure that you know what to do and will answer all of your questions.

If you want to nominate yourself or someone else, but do not want to specify a position, then that's fine! Just let us know. The only drawback is that they can't be the president or vice president if you do that. Prez and VP's must be explicitly nominated for those positions.

Elections - Thursday, May 10

Elections will be held on Thursday, May 10th at a location yet to be announced. Everyone will be invited to come vote. Each person running for a position, whether or not he or she is up against anyone else, will give a very brief speech indicating why he or she is best for that position. If someone is up for more than one position, he or she will have to give the speech for each position.

Elections will be silent and will use ballots, much like a normal, democratic election process. As members, you will simply show up, listen to the brief speeches, and vote.

The voting nomination, election, and transition process is currently being detailed and completed by the ISMA officers. The above information may change slightly, but that's pretty much how it will run.
4/22/07 - Grant Money and Elections
We are excited to announce that ISMA will be receiving $1190 from the Avago Technologies Grant which is available to all student organizations within the School of Engineering. ISMA has proven that it is capable of being an outstanding community and benefit to its members without any money. With the help of these funds, ISMA will only keep improving in breadth and depth. Please view the Avago Funds Grant Proposal for every last detail about how we plan to spend this money.
4/22/07 - Adminstrative Meeting Minutes
Last night's administrative meeting was awesome! Again, we had numerous members show their support by attending and providing input. Thanks also to the officers who stayed after to help approve the first set of our new bylaws. Download the meeting minutes.

Administrative Meeting Minutes

The administrative meeting last night was again very successful. 10 people, half of which were regular members, showed up. Thanks so much to Jason, Michelle, John, Davis, and Katie for showing your support and interest. We hope that you and all of the other members keep coming to the admin meetings.

Your input proves over and over again to be valuable to our decisions. For those of you who weren't able to make it to the meeting, here are the meeting minutes. Once again, thanks to Calvin for taking meticulous notes.

Outreach Week A Success

ISMA successfully gained 14 new members this week, thanks to the hardwork of current officers and members alike who spent the week tabling, flyering, and presenting to classes.

The week concluded with a meeting last night introducing ISMA to the new members, kicking off the ink cartridge fundraiser, and reviewing the upcoming ISMA events.

ISMA has an administrative meeting this Sunday at 6pm in JBE 312C/D. The room is located in the older of the two engineering buildings. It is a little tricky to find, so be sure to look on the map outside the Engineering building. If the door is locked, please call Ian at (831) 818-5012 and we'll be sure to get you in the building.

Poker Night Tonight, April 13th

ISMA and SHPE are hosting a poker tournament tonight at 5:30 in the Baskin Lounge (the coffee cart area). Tickets are available at the door. First place prize will be an 8GB MP3 player, 2nd place will be a DVD player, and 3rd place will be a poker chip set.

There is a $10 buy in for this tournament.

Great Job Officers

This week is going very well. In class presentations have been going smoothly, we have around 7 new members just today, and the word about ISMA continues to get out.

Please email isma.ucsc@gmail.com with anything you would like to see put into the presentation for this Thursday's member meeting. If you do email something back, please be prepared to present your slide.

Again, all officers need to come this Thursday. Please wear either your ISMA officer shirt, or a nice, slick outfit (business casual). Keep up to date on the website. We may be posting more details about the meeting on there, including the presentation.
